MIDDLE EAST – MANARA COMFORTS THOSE WHO MOURN

The picture of the boy washing up dead on the shores of a Turkish town shocked and saddened the world. But he is not the only one to suffer such a fate. Many children have ended up that way. What a heart breaking tragedy! In the face of such suffering our friends at Manara Ministries are reaching out to the suffering refugees who have fled ISIS and Syrian forces. Besides providing meals, and relief supplies to refugees, Manara is providing some long range relief. They have built studio apartments in Jordan that can house up to 80 refugees. Each needy family will have their own space with a bathroom. A shared kitchen and a large hall will allow the families to cook together and give them some space where the children can play. The apart- ments need to be furnished so that families can move in. Beds, mattresses, pillows, cribs, cooking utensils, furniture and the like are all needed to allow the first families to move in. $2000 will help with this need.

“Turmoil and distress is all around us, everywhere we look there is someone who has been hurt, someone who needs medical help, someone who cannot work; people looking for hope and help. Still God is faithful for sending us people like you who help us so we can help them.”

– Isam Ghattas

REACHING THE UNREACHED: HERE’S HOW

D. B. Hrudaya has always had a heart for the unengaged, unreached people groups in his Indian state of Orissa. After the super cyclone of 1999 where 100,000 children of such groups were left homeless, D.B. began to develop programs to reach out to them. Through starting what are called “Hold My Hand” clubs in rural villages for the children, D.B .has found favor in the eyes of those who have previously been hostile to the gospel. In Mayurbanj district alone, 100 Hold My Hand clubs have been started. These each include 30 children ages 5-11. They provide teaching material for the children and a set of clothing to each child. The children love these clubs and they open doors for D.B.’s evangelism teams to share the gospel. In Mayurbanj the Khadias and the Mankidias are among the most underprivileged people groups in India. Thankfully a work has now been established among the Mankidias and house churches have started to take root among them. Other people groups that D.B. has targeted include the Bathudis, the Bhumij, the Lodhas and the Dongrias.

You can make a difference by supporting the work of the Hold My Hold program and the wider evangelism that takes place through them. $3000 will provide start up costs to get this program underway by opening literacy centers and Hold My Hold clubs among an unreached people group.

HAITI’S HOPE LIES IN THE GOSPEL

Pastor Cebien Alexis and his Army of Christ ministry is making a huge difference in the lives of many throughout Haiti. Through education, medical services, nursing and farming programs and evangelistic outreaches, thousands are hearing the gospel, and responding to the Lord. They are seeing Jesus do for them what voodoo and witchcraft never could: bring them peace and hope. Earlier this year several evangelistic crusades were held in the area of Jacmel. Over 10,000 came at a time and hundreds of them received Jesus.

Up in the mountains of Haiti in an area where there is no running water and hundreds of children had to walk 3 hours to get an education, a school is being built. In addition a well is being constructed. Once there is water crops can be planted and local food avail- able to feed the children. In addition, Nursing, Agronomy and English programs have been opened at the University level. You can help Cebien expand this great work by giving for cru- sade costs, school needs or well construction.

NEEP Changes Lives in Uganda

thumbnail
Our friends at NEEP Uganda continue to work hard to carry forward the legacy of founder Gertrude Kabatalemwa who went home to be with the Lord this past April. The secondary school building construction has started, the foun- dation has been laid, walls are going up and bricks are being made. Young lives continue to be changed who can bring a witness to Christ to their nation.

thumbnail-1Syrus Barozi is a great example of what life at NEEP’s Nyamabuga Secondary School can do for a young man. Syrus has been attending NEEP schools for the past eleven years. Coming to the school as a young child with very little hope for an education and a future, Syrus now has concrete plans to become a pilot. He recently wrote this to his sponsors, “It is due to the love and care of our directors here and because of your support that Nyambuga has been such a good and attractive school. This has made me love it. May you keep up that loving spirit!” Gifts for school supplies, malaria medicines and school construction are needed.

GOSPEL TOOLS BRING HINDUS TO CHRIST

Here’s a quote that was sent to us last week from our partners in Nepal: “Hello, I am an elderly Buddhist Monk living and teaching in a monastery. I had the opportunity to read the gospel tract about Jesus from your ministry. I like Jesus very much and I wanted to ask you if I could be a Jesus follower in my heart but still be a Buddhist monk on the outside? What shall I do?…”
This letter is an example of the responses our friends in Nepal receive regularly. Gospel tracts, preaching teams and radio are used to preach the gospel to unreached areas of Nepal. The plan this year is to send out ten evangelism teams, distribute a half-million pieces of literature and broadcast 400 radio programs with the message of eternal life all over the country. To fulfill this plan, portable equipment is needed.
This includes a projector, backup battery packs and speakers to show Jesus films at night and to preach the gospel. Literature distribution is very effective. For this a good laptop to design and publish gospel literature is required. Radio programs reach the masses with the gospel message. A good audio recording device to improve program quality is also needed. To purchase one set of all this equipment will cost $4800.

An Exciting Opportunity with Isam Ghattas and Manara International

The Blessed Olive Tree

On his recent trip to the Holy Land, Isam Ghattas of Manara International in Jordan was continually impressed by the Olive Tree – one of God’s best blessings. Here is how he described the experience and what he decided to do about it.

“We were privileged to see the Mount of Olives, where Jesus labored in prayer His final night before Good Friday. We witnessed fields of blessing with some olive trees dating back 2,000 years to Roman rule. The olive tree with its immense natural health benefits also signifies peace and plenty. The olive tree has created a new desire in me – an idea that I pray will also inspire you.

One of our dreams at Manara International is, with your help, to plant and grow a new Mount of Olives in Jordan. One thousand blooming new olive trees in Moab, the southern region, the land of Ruth (Daniel 11:41) and an adjoining mountainous property. One thousand beautiful new olive trees to herald the coming of one thousand years of peace at the return of Our Lord. One thousand fruitful new olive trees with all their healthy benefits for people and the environment within the next 3-4 years. On the land, there are already 200 planted trees, but our aim is to plant 800 more olive trees. We also have water storage of 220 cubic meters which is ready to irrigate the olive trees.

Our cost is $60 for each olive tree. After planting these trees of peace in your name, we will send you pictures of their progress along with our gratitude for helping us achieve this vision. I thank you, and even the honey bees will thank you, for being a part of a new Mount of Olives in Moab, Jordan. Thank you once more for your support in the past, and for continuing to serve with us at Manara International. Please feel free to participate in this new green effort which we pray will bring glory to Our Lord. You can send your gifts to the Hope Builders International address below or give here on the website. Simply put Olive trees for Jordan in the memo box.
