Reaching the Unreached: Going to the Mankidias

The Mankidia tribals in eastern India are a nomadic group of poverty stricken people. These tribals are without hope and without God in the world. Now, thanks to the efforts of Orissa Follow-Up that has begun to change. OFU’s efforts are first targeted at the Mankidia children as they are the most vulnerable. They are poor in every sense, suffering from malnutrition, lack of education, disease, unsanitary living conditions and social isolation. OFU opened a literacy center for the children, providing them with warm clothes and feeding them three meals a week. This has opened the hearts of their parents to the Gospel. Two Mankidia men have come to the Lord and are receiving training in the Scriptures. They will become the first Mankidia missionaries to their own tribe. Will you help OFU reach the Mankidias! $10 provides a set of clothes for one child. $70 will provide a bicycle for a Mankidia missionary. Let’s help reach this unreached tribe for God!

The Middle East Cries Out…Manara Ministries Answers

middle east sceneThe suffering in the Middle East continues unabated. Thousands have left Iraq and are fleeing into Jordan. Many families who have sought refuge there have no warm clothing, blankets, heaters or even food. The approaching winter can be deadly without the basic necessities. They need help now before the snow comes and the temperatures plunge. A kerosene heater costs $55. Warm blankets for a family of four cost $75. Food parcels that will last 3 weeks cost $50. Items purchased will be distributed to Christian refugees in Jordan and Erbil, Iraq. Your help can make a difference.

Breaking Voodoo’s Chains in Haiti

Pastor CebienHaiti lies only 700 miles off our shores. Yet our neighbor to the South is light years away in terms of need. 50% of Haitians earn less than $1 a day. Over 67% do not have regular jobs. Half of the children under 5 are malnourished and over 7% of children die at birth. 50% of children are not able to attend school and 60% of those who do will leave before the 6th grade. The country is racked with voodoo’s dark superstitions and demon possession. Into this chaos steps Dr. Cebien Alexis and the Army of Christ. Since the 1970’s they have planted 202 churches in Haiti and another 29 in the Dominican Republic. They have started schools, a children’s home, a medical clinic and a training center for pastors and community leaders as well as a Bible Training University. HBI recently provided funds to build a school for the children shown here. School books and supplies are needed. Will you help the students?

Blessing the Family at Christmas

Hope Builders International Christmas Catalogue for 2014

Dear Friends,

The world lies hurting and lost without Christ. The Lord’s enemy is doing all he can to keep the Gospel of Christ from advancing into dark strongholds. Because of that, stories of persecution against believers in Christ abound. From ISIS mercilessly killing believers in the Middle East and driving them from their homes, to a young couple brutally killed in Pakistan for their faith to daily reports of churches being attacked in India, we are witnessing opposition of Biblical proportion to the Gospel. Millions around the globe are oppressed because they simply name the Name of Jesus, want to read the Bible, meet in a home with other believers or pray to a loving God. They covet our support and prayers as they carry the Gospel to those in darkness. We as believers and sharers in the Life of God are all part of His family. In this catalogue are ways to support our greater family around the world. Your gifts and prayers encourage them more than you know. Join us in blessing them this year through these special Christmas gifts.

Kingdom Advances in Haiti; A News Report from Cebian Alexis

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,

Thank you very much for the support and prayers over the years for the work of Army of Christ in Haiti. Words are not sufficient to express my gratitude to God for all of you. Let me simply say, “Thank you and I will continue to pray for you.” What faithful friends you are!

children in HaitiBecause of your help we have grown from just a couple of churches in Haiti in the 1970’s to now having 202 churches in Haiti, 29 in the Dominican Republic, and one each in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Chili, Brazil, and Florida. This makes us very happy and we know your hearts are encouraged, as well as you see the results of your giving. The most recent gift we received through Hope Builders support enabled us to construct a school in the interior village of Robinette. The children shown here will soon have a solid building to study in.

Let me share a few other stories with you. Before the Preacher’s Conference that we held in August, one of our dear pastors from Jeremie came to our clinic. He was suffering as a result of a stroke and he had high blood pressure. He couldn’t walk without a cane and he couldn’t speak clearly. After a month of treatment, he can now speak clearly and is able to walk without the cane. He needed $1,500 Haitian dollars to finish paying for a piece of land for his church. The past week we received US $200 from our supporters. This amount comes to $1600 Haitian, so we were able to cover his needs plus pay for his travel back to Jeremie. Thank you so much for this help!

Pastor CebienTwo weeks ago I had the privilege of going to the Dominican Republic for two weeks of seminars with the pastors there. While at the conference one pastor shared his church’s need for $1,300 Haitian dollars to finish paying for a piece of land for their meeting place. By the time I returned to Haiti, almost exactly $1,300 Haitian dollars had come in from friends in the US that we were able to send to him. So even before we presented this need to the Lord, He already had the provision on the way. We have a great God.

Thank you again for helping make a difference for the Lord and His kingdom here in our country.

Serving the Lord in Haiti,

Bringing Hope to the Hopeless: A Frontline Report from Isam Ghattas

I returned recently from a trip to assess conditions of the Christian community in Erbil, northern Iraq. And I thought I was prepared. But nothing could have prepared me for the hopelessness I found when I saw it in person. It was very tough to handle.

Trip to Erbil, Iraq

15The streets of Kurdistan’s largest city are lined with children begging for money, for food, for anything to ease their suffering. Displaced families are everywhere; in tents and churches and unfinished buildings.

One thousand people were packed into one unfinished building in a mall. There was no flooring, no privacy. Makeshift wooden dividers separated families. Living in a construction site, many suffer from sinus infections and skin and eye problems. They have nothing. They share a tank of gas to cook their meager meals. They are all well educated and had built lives for themselves and their families. Now they have nothing. Two little girls…..as their parents were killed. Now, they hold each other and cry inconsolably. Who will care for them now? This is only one of countless stories of horror and suffering.

The Mobile Clinic Project

With so many desperate refugees, there is not nearly enough medical care. We were able to buy, refurnish, and supply a mobile clinic to provide free medical services. Each new clinic would have cost about $225,000; but we were able to find a used clinic and refurnish it with all it needs for $50,000. A doctor from Iraq has accepted to staff it and help. We have supplied it with two air conditioners and medical equipment. But there is a great need for medicine. Our goal is to have it ready by the end of November. Each mobile clinic will have a small reception area, a doctor’s room, an X-ray room, a laboratory, a dental clinic, and a pharmacy.

Trip to Bandewya

On the third day of our trip, we went to a village just a few miles from ISIS, on the other side of the Mosul dam. We had to take a security car that drove next to us and an extra van in case there was a problem with our vehicle. We were always in touch with the head security office in Erbil, and we had orders to be back in Erbil before sunset. It was a dangerous, six-hour drive.

8Bandewya is a Christian village, population 800. Many people from Mosul ran away to this village for protection from ISIS. We arrived with two trucks filled with basic necessities. We were able to distribute mattresses, warm covers for winter, food parcels, and heaters. Soon, the snows will come, threatening the lives of those who are not equipped to survive.

Distributing supplies

5The families were very thankful and appreciative; no one has ever tried to reach them before. They understood the risks we took to get there. They told us they can hear bombs exploding and the crack of rifle fire from the valley below and said they will have to flee to Erbil soon, because ISIS is getting closer.

If the Lord leads you to share a special gift today to help us minister to those in need and demonstrate his love, you may send it to Hope Builders International or give on the Contribute page.Thank you for your compassion and for your friendship. You are a constant encouragement to all of us at Manara. May the God of peace be with you and those you love.
