The Bible tells us that God loves the orphan and the widow. And in that spirit, GLOW (God Loves Orphans-Widow) is ministering to these two groups in Nepal and India. The programs run by GLOW are multi-faceted. At present, ten children are receiving an education thanks to this ministry. The children continue to live with their own familes while GLOW pays their tuition and monitors their progress in school.
"We were working with the children of the Red Light Area (a district inhabited by prostitutes) in Mumbai," writes a GLOW worker, but "we have not been able to develop since we have no funds for this sector." Three children -- two of whom are HIV-positive -- were earlier placed with families in Mumbai. Three other girls are living with a Christian family in Kathmandu and GLOW continues to pay for their lodging and schooling.
GLOW also built a simple hut for one widow, and helped her start a mushroom garden to help earn support for her family. Unfortunately, during the "load shedding" (power cuts), a fire started, destroying the home. The ministry is raising funds to build a new home for this widow, her two daughters, and younger sister.
Training the widows is an important aspect of GLOW's ministry. With skills such as sewing, tailoring, and knitting, these widows are well on the road to self-sufficency. Gifts from Christians in developed countries such as the United States are invested in the training of widows in Nepal and India by GLOW, enabling them to rise out of the poverty in which they've long lived.
GLOW would like nothing more than to expand its ministries to the orphans and widows and, with your prayerful support, that can become a reality.
